Testing the app in mock scenarios [not in actual emergency]
The task was to design an application that will run on both web and mobile, that will allow patients to quickly fill in the intake form with all the vital information, already recorded in the database.
The following scenarios were to be covered during the design of the system.
A patient who wishes to go to a doctor with some health issue and how can the patient report the troubles/uneasiness in the fastest way possible
A patient in an emergency caused due to some chronic disease and how can the doctor be made aware of the pre-existing conditions in the fastest way.
The patient who needs to track the symptoms and medication
for the caretakers, how can they made aware of the entire medical history of the patient, so that in case of emergency, they can easily locate the relevant disorder.
for referral cases, how can the system transfer all the data to the second doctor including the diagnosis of the first doctor.
There were four task flows that needed to be covered.
registration and profile completion
Adding an event/document to your timeline.
Adding your healthcare team and sharing the entire history with them
Creating an intake form from the existing data
based on the persona and the task flows, IA was created
The doctors were consulted, and the visual representation idea was welcomed by all of them. As per them, it could save some precious seconds in the time of emergency, and can really help if the patient is unable to describe the symptoms in case of emergency. The entire mechanism was to allow the patient to identify the area of distress first and then filter the possible symptoms based on the area selected. This will also allow the doctors to assess the time criticality of the distress.
The idea was to maintain all the health-related history, including medications, allergies, surgical records, past illnesses and all related / unrelated data that might help a doctor reach a correct diagnosis faster. The goal was to encourage the patients to keep their profile updated and handy in case of emergencies.
While preparing for the visit to the doctor, the patient can select all the relevant history that might be needed for the visit, This list included
Reason for the visit, which can accommodate images and video clips.
Symptom areas and actual symptoms. We also included an icon-based severity selection.
The patient can select a list of trusted doctors, from which the system will match the best doctors based on availability, proximity and symptom area.
Relevant health conditions can be selected for the current symptom (all are selected by default)
The same applies for surgical history, lifestyle choices, current medication, allergies, and genetic abnormalities if present (all are selected by default)
The patient has a choice to select relevant medical insurance as well.
All the data filled in by the patient is shown to the doctor during the visit, in a structured way. From all the interviews conducted, we decided to add the most relevant parts at the top, like current medication, health conditions, allergies and vaccination status.
